The Maintenance Associate is responsible for repairing, maintaining, and improving facility infrastructure and production equipment. This role executes both reactive and preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and support plant operations. Acting as a technical leader on the factory floor, this position collaborates closely with production, engineering, and management teams to ensure a safe, efficient manufacturing environment.
Principal Responsibilities
- Equipment Maintenance: Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and production machinery.
- Preventative Maintenance: Monitor utilities and production systems to ensure peak operational efficiency by tracking and executing PM schedules.
- Technical Tasks: Perform precision welding, machining, and advanced Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) troubleshooting.
- Project Support: Partner with the engineering department on capital improvement projects and equipment installations.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions and facility calls to mitigate production downtime.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHS&S) protocols and champion a clean, hazard-free workspace.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate power lift equipment, forklifts, and execute tasks requiring overhead work.
Position Authority & Supervisory Scope
- Supervisory Status: Non-exempt position with no direct or indirect reports.
- Authority Level: Authorized to halt or suspend manufacturing operations due to immediate safety or quality violations.
- Leadership Expectations: Expected to provide peer leadership on the floor without formal supervisory authority; escalates personnel issues to the Coordinator when appropriate.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree, Journeyman card, or relevant technical coursework is highly preferred.
- Experience: 1 to 3 years of mechanical and electrical maintenance experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Aptitude: Proven ability to comprehend complex verbal and written technical directives (aptitude testing may be requested).
Technical Skills & Qualifications
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, including the proficiency to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) logic, or a strong willingness to undergo corporate training.
- Proficiency in robotic operation and automated systems.
- Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under strict time constraints.
- Intermediate digital literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong collaborative skills to work independently or seamlessly within a cross-functional team.
- Flexibility to work full-time hours and overtime as operational demands require.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Physical Demands: Requires frequent walking, climbing, twisting, bending, reaching, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Endurance: Ability to stand and move on the production floor for extended shifts lasting 8 to 12 hours.
- Working Conditions: Located inside a climate-controlled factory environment. Exposure may include moving mechanical components, sharp tools, and plant chemicals (per standard SDS guidelines). Noise and vibration levels are minimal.
